Tc-99 detection with sub-cellular resolution: publication by Marcus Mandel et al. in the Journal of Hazardous Materials.

Iodine, rhenium and especially technetium-99 were imaged in single cells by measuring cryotome sections of carrots and peas by spatially resolved mass spectrometry SIMS and rL-SNMS. The sections contained only about 1010 Tc-99 atoms. The present work paves the way for gaining a much better understanding of transfer and transport behavior (not only of Tc-99) within plants at the cellular level. The publication is available as preview here Imaging of I, Re and Tc plant uptake on the single-cell scale using SIMS and rL-SNMS.
