Radiation Protection and Radioecology

This lecture is part of the modules "Modern Aspects of Physics" and "Selected Topics in Modern Physics"

Content of the lecture

The lecture deals with ionizing radiation, radioactive decay, the interaction of radiation with matter, natural radioactivity, biological radiation effects, consequences for dose-risk relationships, exposure of humans to radioactive substances and ionising radiation, epidemiology, exposure pathways, radioecological modelling of the pathways of radioactive substances to humans, assessment of radiation risks, radiation dose and radiation risk, dose-response relationships, concept of collective dose, radiation protection principles, determination of dose levels, radiation protection measures, legal radiation protection regulations, EURATOM basic standards, fundamental questions of radiation protection.

(option of acquiring “Fachkunde” (expertise for radiation protection officers, or “Strahlenschutzbeauftragte”) for handling unsealed radioactive substances acc. to StrSchV S 4.1).
