On 08.07.2019 we will make an excursion to the Asse II mine. 10 students can register. If we have more registrations than places, the decision will be made by lot.

Brief information on the Asse II mine

The Asse II mine is located in the district of Wolfenbüttel in Lower Saxony. From 1967 to 1978, around 47,000 cubic metres of low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste were stored there on behalf of the Federal Government. The plant only came under nuclear law in 2009. According to current knowledge, the long-term safety of the plant can only be guaranteed by retrieving the radioactive waste. The retrieval has been legally mandated since 2013. (Source:
