Can we follow hot particles weathering in the Chornobyl exclusion zone ?

Not quite yet. But the new publication of Darcy van Eerten et al. "Multi-element isotopic analysis of hot particles from Chornobyl" represents an important step forward.

Darcy van Eerten and coworkers performed a study on several hot particles of different morphology and structure. By using both, the IRS SNMS system and the LION instrument at LLNL, isotope ratios of fission products were measured with unprecedented sensitivity and selectivity. The journal pre proof of our most recent publication in the Journal of Hazardous Materials is now online: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jhazmat.2023.131338
